We are Functionals. We organise spaces with unobtrusive and functional design that lasts a lifetime. Together with talented designers, our family company develops products that excel in simplicity, craftsmanship and sustainability.
A bond as strong as steel
Functionals was born from the merger of van Esch and Functionals. For many years, the more than 50 years old van Esch company and Functionals were two separate brands within one family business. In recent years, van Esch and Functionals grew increasingly closer. The brands shared a passion for metal and craftsmanship, with an eye for detail and functionality. When the third generation of van Esch also took the helm, it felt like a natural next step to merge van Esch and Functionals into one rock-solid brand. A brand that prepared us for the future and allowed us to serve our customers with even greater focus.

At Functionals, we collaborate with top designers who prioritize functionality, craftsmanship, and sustainability. Designers like KaschKasch, Geckeler Michels and James Irvine create pieces that are visually striking yet practical and timeless. These talented professionals bring unique visions and techniques to our collection, resulting in objects that excels both aesthetically and functionally.
For the next generation
As a family firm, we have a vested interest in looking after the next generation. A long-term approach is second nature to us. And this lays solid foundations for sustainable enterprise. From our vision regarding design to the way in which we treat people: every decision we take in business considers the next generation. With attention for people, the environment and society. We prefer to work locally. This keeps us very flexible and is better for the environment. We are extremely proud that we manufacture half of our products in-house. A close-knit team of enthusiastic craftspeople work in our own factory in Goirle, making coat racks and entrance hall accessories. Above all, they can repair damaged products and give them a second life. Our suppliers are located near to us too: 80% are within a 100km radius.
